In this advanced-beginner level class, students will learn the concepts and movements of Urban Bachata, drawing on the material covered in previous beginner Bachata classes.
Compared to Authentic Bachata, Urban Bachata gives dancers the liberty to express themselves by combining movements of traditional Bachata with the sensual moves of Hip Hop and R&B
The Urban style of Bachata became popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s as Latin musicians began releasing bilingual tracks. The music artist most credited with popularizing the “Urban” style is Prince Royce, as he converted his hit “Stand By Me” into a Bachata-based version.
Prerequisites: Prior Latin Dance experience recommended but not required.
Dance Partner: A dance partner is not required for this class, as students will rotate partners throughout the class. However, if you and your partner come to class together and prefer not to switch, then simply inform the instructor of your preference.
NEW **Open Practice** Starting in the Fall, every Thursday night from 7:45 to 9:45pm, join your fellow Latin Dancers for an open practice session to the latest Salsa and Bachata hits. Free for all students enrolled in Fall 2016 classes.
