ABOUT JAZZ DANCE
Commonly seen in Broadway and Old-Hollywood musicals, Jazz began as a style of movement heavily influenced by African-dance and later, Jazz music. The style was further developed by now iconic choreographers, such as: Michael Kidd, Frank Hatchett, Luigi, Gus Giordano, Bob Fosse, and many others. While Jazz dance has branched off into multiple sub-categories, all remains focused on a grounded center of gravity, clear isolations of the body, rhythmic interpretation of music, and high-energy precision and expression/performance ability.
As rigorous as Jazz may be, expect every class to be a fun upbeat experience.
Prerequisites: No prior dance experience necessary.
Suitability: This class is ideal for students with no prior dance experience, but may also be suitable for more experienced students as it offers enough challenging combinations for the seasoned dancer.
